UP45 Half-Inch 42 ml White Solvent-Based TIJ Industrial Ink Cartridge
Compatible with HP 2580/2590|Marking on Dark Substrates

Product Features

The UP45 half-inch white solvent-based cartridge forms its image by covering the background colour, solving the problem of dark surfaces that ordinary ink cannot mark. It is the primary choice for printing dates, batch numbers and specification markings on dark-coloured products.

Advantages of the UP45 Half-Inch White Solvent Cartridge

1

Opaque Coverage Forms the Image on Dark Surfaces

Ordinary ink layers colour over the substrate, so dark surfaces swallow the characters. White ink contains opaque colourants that form bright characters against black and dark backgrounds, allowing dark-coloured products to be coded directly.

2

Serial Numbers and Batch Codes on Black Electronic Housings

Black plastic housings on chargers, power supplies and similar products can be printed directly in white with serial numbers and production batch codes, so factory data can be looked up quickly during after-sales service.

3

Discreet Marking on Black Gift Boxes and Dark Cartons

A white label on a premium black gift box or dark carton spoils the finish. Printing batch codes in white instead completes the traceability marking while preserving the look of the packaging.

Substrates Suited to White

White is intended for dark and mid-dark substrates. It is almost invisible on white or light surfaces, so please confirm the background colour of the print surface before selecting it.

Commonly printable surfaces:

  • Dark plastics: black ABS, black PP, PE, dark PVC and dark PET
  • Wire, cable and hose: black cable sheathing, hydraulic hose and dark-sheathed tubing
  • Dark glass: amber bottles, dark green bottles and dark coated glass
  • Dark films: black, dark brown and dark blue flexible plastic films
  • Dark paper: dark corrugated board and black card
  • Dark metal and rubber: black painted parts, dark anodised aluminium parts and black rubber components

Please note: white is not suitable for white or light-coloured substrates. For light surfaces, please evaluate black solvent ink instead. White colourants have a higher specific gravity, so shake the cartridge gently before use and keep up a routine of regular test prints. Surface material, coatings, temperature and humidity all influence adhesion and drying performance. We recommend sample testing before full production to confirm the most suitable ink formulation and equipment parameters.

White vs. Black Solvent Ink Cartridges Comparison

White and black sit at opposite ends of the contrast scale; choose the cartridge colour according to how light or dark the printing surface is.

If the print surface is a white bottle, a label or transparent film, please evaluate the black solvent-based ink cartridge instead.

Compatibility Check

The half-inch white solvent-based ink cartridge is compatible with most non-encrypted half-inch coding systems on the market. Besides replacing the common HP 2580 and HP 2590 cartridges, it also suits a wide range of handheld and inline TIJ coders.

Purchasing scenarios suited to the white cartridge:

Marking black cable or dark bottles is commonly done by applying a white label first and then printing on it — an extra process step, and one where the label easily lifts or peels in damp or abrasive conditions. Printing directly in white ink removes that step entirely.

Wire and cable plants producing black cable and hydraulic hose; health supplement and chemical companies using amber bottles and dark containers; and electronics and appliance component manufacturers producing dark plastic housings. It also suits packaging plants, system integrators and coding equipment suppliers.

Use and Storage Recommendations

Storage conditions:

  • Avoid direct sunlight
  • Keep away from environments with excessive dust
  • Do not store upside down for extended periods

Usage:

  • When pausing use, refit the cartridge into its protective clip so the printhead is not left exposed for long periods
  • Use within six months of opening
  • Even with no immediate printing requirement, run a test print roughly every two weeks to extend cartridge service life
  • When changing colours, remove the original cartridge and store it separately; never mix inks of different colours in the same cartridge
  • Ink is not edible. Keep out of reach of children; avoid contact with skin and eyes and rinse promptly with clean water in case of contact

FAQ

Can white ink be printed on white or light-coloured packaging? +

We do not recommend it. White ink is designed to produce bright characters against dark backgrounds, and it is almost invisible on white or light-coloured packaging.
If one line has to handle both light and dark materials, switch colour according to the background and group same-colour orders together in the schedule to reduce cartridge changes.

Why does white ink need shaking before use? +

White colourants have a higher specific gravity, so after the cartridge has stood for a while the colourant can settle at the bottom. Fitting it straight onto the machine often gives faint characters at the start of a run and denser ones later on.
A few gentle shakes before fitting restores an even density. Refit the protective clip when stopping, and keep up a test print roughly every two weeks.

Will oil or dust on white markings show up badly? +

Dark dust or oil on white characters does look dirtier than it would on other colours. If your working environment is dusty, we suggest repositioning the coding station or adding protection for finished products after printing.
